Recent advancements in memory technologies, particularly Resistive Random-Access Memory (RRAM), have further enabled computation within memory, reducing energy overheads.\u003Cbr> \u003C/p>","\u003Cp style=\"text-align:justify;\">SNNs leverage temporal dynamics for computation, utilizing the timing of spikes to encode information. We explore how introducing delays in feedforward SNNs enhances their memory efficiency, and how RRAM-based In-Memory Computing (IMC) architectures can be augmented to incorporate such parameters. By embedding delays directly into the architecture, we achieve an order of magnitude of reduction in memory footprint, compared to an iso-accuracy Recurrent SNN. Moreover, the analog nature of RRAMs results in physical heterogeneity which we will exploit for hardware aware training of SNNs mappable to our architectures.\u003C/p>\u003Cp style=\"text-align:justify;\">As the scale of IMC arrays increases, multi-core architectures become critical. Energy efficiency in these systems will be mainly dominated by the communication network on chip. I will present how RRAM-based in-memory cores can also support energy-efficient in-memory routing (IMR). Based on this, we introduce a modular systolic array of IMC cores, alternated with IMR cores, which effectively implement a locally dense, globally sparse connectivity. This so-called “small world” connectivity is also the solution found in mammalian brains, minimizing the wiring costs. \u003C/p>\u003Cp style=\"text-align:justify;\">Finally, I will discuss how such specific on-chip routing with specific memory placement calls for a co-design approach with hardware-architecture and algorithm during network optimization.
